Here is the last of the old merchants in a dying neighborhood. The old stores are being demolished and the factories are replacing them. The only store left is the cobbler’s place on the corner and the men in the expensive suits have been trying to get him to sell his property for 11 years. The old man wants to teach the young man upstairs the art of repairing shoes but he is more interested in his music and he does not understand the old man. The old man would give his business and his building to the kid if he learned how to repair shoes but the old man died before it ever happened. The young man found a new apartment above the Ben Franklin and he wonders why he never gets any breaks in life. |
